Easy Go

I know the economy is in the slumps at the moment. I know times are hard for everyone. Gas is more expensive, food is more expensive... but I didn't really think it affected my life too much. I don't drive very far or very often, and most of the food I buy is either on sale or hasn't changed in price. So where is all my money going? For the past month, I've been just barely scraping by with my paycheck. (And dipping into savings too, ouch.) But a few months ago, I had enough money left over after my expenses to put some away for savings. So what's changed?

Well, lots of events in June. Weddings, graduations, birthdays... Not that I spent a lot on these occasions, but there were some small added costs, not to mention there was MUCH more driving (aka gas). And I really feel like Sam and I have been eating out way too often lately. We ate out 3 times since yesterday, and the weekend isn't even over yet. Back in March and April, I was on this huge health kick, so I cooked more often. And not only did I lose some weight, but I'm betting that saved me lots of money that month. Costco has some good savings too, though it doesn't feel that way when I get to the checkout counter. I haven't been shopping there recently, but I really should. Not only is food cheaper there, but the cornucopia of food we come home with really gives us no excuse to go out. Gas is usually at least cheaper by 10 cents per gallon, too. Maybe I'll try going tomorrow. If anything, I should at least try to get meat, bread, and gas. And maybe a couple quick dinner options for lazy days...

I really have to be strict with myself. And I can't let Sam talk me into going out. We'll be moving in a few short months - maybe even sooner if we're lucky. And I'm starting to feel panicked. I still have so much to save for, and nothing to save with. It's already almost July! It's time to get into super-frugal mode.
